happy birthday to us!

well hello there, everyone!

we want to say THANK YOU to everyone who sent us sweet wishes through Facebook message, texts, emails, and even with cards and gifts! we appreciate you all so much, and we had a wonderful birthday together. thank you thank you thank you!

as many of you have now realized, my husband and i have the same exact birthday! crazy right?! we were born exactly three years apart. i turned 23, and john turned 26. woot woot! people may think that having the same birthday as your spouse may not be as fun, that sharing it may not be as magical as birthdays can be. but it's the complete opposite for us! we love sharing a birthday. sharing that special day of being born, having that same commonality between the two of us is really special. now, planning a surprise party for the other person may prove to be a bit difficult...but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

john had to work on our birthday, so after driving john to work, liam and i took a quick trip to target in our pajamas and bought birthday candles and a small gift for john. prior to our birthday, we had decided to not buy any gifts for each other, but i sneak attacked him and did it anyway. he has been walking around so much while working that he's had to throw a few pairs of his dress socks away. so, we bought john some brand new dress socks. liam picked them out, a three pack of black patterned socks. a simple gift, but a needed one. after this, we drove home, i laid liam down for his nap and i showered and got ready for the day. we had a few errands to run, so after his nap and getting everything together, we went on a trip to costco to buy granola bars and chocolate chips {a staple in our household}.

BIG MISTAKE.

the costco that is closest to us is one right next to the pentagon, and people had mentioned to me in the past to never go to this costco on saturdays. i thought i would try it out and see what all the fuss was about.

NEVER AGAIN.

to even get into the parking lot it took me fifteen minutes! FIFTEEN MINUTES! once i actually got into the parking lot, it took me another fifteen minutes to even find a spot which i had to fight for! it was absolute insanity.
feast your eyes upon the craziness.

i rushed out of there as fast as i could! off to the library we went to return some movies and a book. the library that i take liam to has a cute little play area for kids, and liam loves it!

after we played for awhile, we left the library, went and picked up john, and went to red robin to get a free birthday meal! we each got a gourmet burger with bottomless fries, FOR FREE. not joking. i got their "burnin' love" burger with bottomless sweet potato fries, and john got their "whiskey river bbq" burger with bottomless regular fries. it was amazing, and best of all FREE. we had a blast!

when we got home, we laid liam down for bed, and finished the day by opening presents, and eating a homemade german chocolate cake with coconut pecan frosting that i made. it was HEAVENLY. after stuffing our faces with cake, we ended the night reading together. john is reading "Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn, and i'm reading "To the Rescue: The Biography of Thomas S. Monson" by Heidi S. Swinton. it was so nice to end the night snuggled close together under a warm blanket reading. it doesn't get much better than that, peeps.

thank you all again for your sweet and kind words. it was a special day for both of us, and you all made us feel so loved and cared for. being so far from family can be hard, especially around special events and celebrations like this, but the distance seems much easier to bear with such wonderful friends and family that show their love for us. so again, thank you, and we love you all.
